It was founded in 1918 and is headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, USA. Now IAAPA has more than 5,000 member units in 91 countries around the world. IAAPA members include amusement parks, theme parks, water parks, family entertainment centers, zoos, aquariums, museums, science and education centers, resorts, and gaming hotels.

The European International Theme Park and Amusement Equipment Expo (IAAPA Attractions Expo) is the premier global event in the entertainment attractions industry. The conference lasts for five days and the exhibition event lasts for four days. It is held once a year. The European IAAPA Expo is held annually in different European cities. The exhibition experiences its latest products and innovations, learns about new business strategies and technologies, network and peers, and makes constantly changing connections for new businesses.
