According to the UAE's 'United Daily News' reported on November 29, Dubai Chief Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Maktoum released a clean energy strategy for Dubai in 2050. According to the strategy, the proportion of clean energy in Dubai will account for 7% of the total power generation in 2020, 35% in 2030, and 75% in 2050, when it will become a global carbon city. The strategy is divided into five parts: infrastructure, legislation, funds, capacity building, and environmentally friendly energy mix.

Dubai has recently launched an ambitious new energy strategy, which includes a clause that will make rooftop solar mandatory from 2030. The Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 also sets a 75% renewable energy target. The intermediate target is to achieve 7% by 2020 and 25% by 2030. These goals have accelerated the transition of the emirate to clean energy, which was previously set in January this year to achieve 15% by 2030.

According to a report by the Gulf Times on June 8, Dubai Energy Council officials said that considering the price advantage of solar energy, Dubai will vigorously promote solar energy infrastructure. It is expected that by 2030, Dubai's solar power generation will reach 3000 MW, and the proportion of solar energy in Dubai's energy structure will be increased from the current 5% to 15%.

At present, a 13 MW solar power plant in Dubai has been delivered and another 200 MW solar power plant under construction is expected to be completed within two years. According to officials of the Dubai Hydropower Bureau, the Dubai government will invest a total of 30 billion dirhams (about 8.2 billion US dollars) in the construction of solar power stations.

Dubai Energy Council officials said that compared with wind and waste-to-energy power generation, the Dubai government currently favors solar energy. With the further development of technology, the Dubai government will also consider wind power and waste-to-energy in the future.
